‘The ten symbols of longevity’ is a unique Korean painting that includes ten symbols of eternal youth filled with minds praying for health, long life and utopia.
The origin of ‘The ten symbols of longevity’ dates back to the end of the Goryeo Dynasty. It is a symbolism of over ten objects which has been believed to be the guardians of a long life. It is composed of ten symbols including longevity, the sun, mountain, cloud, water, crane, turtle, pine tree, deer, ganoderma and etc.
After offset printing is done on Korean traditional paper made of paper mulberry bark, hot foil stamping method is applied to the poster twice using large metallographs.
OIMU Scroll Poster presents the beauty of Korean traditional paper in a modern way. The dignity of the Korean traditional paper is enhanced as the poster showcases the durability and printability of the paper.
OIMU Scroll Poster is produced by applying ‘Baecheop’, a traditional processing method for paintings and calligraphic works, which improves practicality and the ability to preserve.
‘Baecheop’ is a processing method for paintings and calligraphies to produce scroll, frame and folding screen by decorating paintings with paper or silk and attaching wood pieces and other ornaments. Scroll poster is finished by pasting glue that is made of flour and water on to paper and silk which is strong and shrinks less even time goes by.
‘Baecheop’ is completed after three times of attaching and drying process. Then cylinder-shaped wood pieces are attached to the upper and lower sides of poster.
OIMU Scroll Poster is provided in exclusive cylinder-shaped paper for easy storage and portablilty.
Story book of OIMU’s ‘Fortune Project’ and OIMU Scroll Poster is also included with the scroll.
Since hot foil stamping method is applied to Korean traditional paper, texture might be partly rough. It is a natural finish caused by the fiber of the paper.
When using scroll poster for the first time or using it in a very dry condition, poster can be bended a little for a period of time. When you take out the scroll at first, please roll it in reverse once and unroll. Otherwise, if you hang it on the wall for a few days, paper and silk spread naturally by matching their appropriate humidity. Therefore, these kind of temporary bending conditions are not considered defective.
